My birthday came and went in October, and this week Cindy apologized for forgetting and gave me a wonderful birthday package. Included was an October wine glass, which I told her was definitely an anytime glass - not just October!

Tonight I got to do something a little bit different. My friend, Sheila, recommended me to take some business shots for her boss. It earned me a very nice dinner at the Farmstead, and some new shots for my portfolio.

I know if I look back far enough in my blog I will find the name of the bird that has been visiting the feeder, or actually the suet block, but I don't have the energy to search. I actually think it's some kind of flicker, and it looks really big hanging off the feeder.

A while back, my father sent me a lens to play with, and up until now, I haven't had a chance to give it a shot. But tonight, with the full moon, I thought that 500mm would be a great range to play with it. I took shots at both the 300mm range and the 500mm range - the 500mm is a manual focus lens, and I can see my eyes aren't what they used to be, but overall, I like the results.

I think Trinka really enjoyed having all the people in the house, and all of the extra attention that came along with it. Now she has to depend on me and Dale - and I'm sure that's not nearly as good as having little people chasing her around all day!

I think Uncle Dennis is getting a complex - Josie likes to play with him and usually has to be cajoled into hugs, kisses and sitting on his lap. Apparently having Kenny in between makes it better?

It's been a busy week, and the house has not been this full in a really long time. I was worried that people would be stepping on each other, but other than having to arrange the shower schedule, things went along much smoother than I think anyone expected. I am not sure I'm looking forward to the craziness ending.

For the first time in a long time, we have our entire family together for Thanksgiving. We celebrated the holiday up at Andy and Laura's new house with Kristin and Steve and Joey, Renee, Rebecca and Jesse, and with Mom and Fred. Dinner all came together and I thought it was a great day!

I've told Dale that one of my goals is to be able to set up a permanent photo studio on the other side of the basement. But that's not going to happen until after I get it shoveled out. So for now, I will have to be happy setting up a temporary studio and tearing it down. Today we took full advantage of it, and got a lot of nice shots. These have even been touched up!

It's a rough life when you're 2 months old. I've told James and Liz it's too bad she can't appreciate how nice it is to be able to sleep all the time. One day she'll wish she could.

One baptism makes a special day, but a double baptism...well that's extra special. Today we were blessed to be a part of the baptism of two very special granddaughters - Evelyn Mae and Edyn Malee. It was a wonderful, family-filled day.

Paraphrasing Murphy's Law, if something can go wrong, it will, and today reinforced it. With James, Liz and Edyn back at the house, Kayla texted me to tell me her flight was probably going to be delayed, and they ended up getting stuck in Denver. We're sad they missed their connection, and feel for Kenn and Kayla having to lose a day of their vacation and be stuck in Denver. Here's hoping for smooth travels for them tomorrow.

Kayla told me tonight if I could find Dora fruit snacks Josie would be one happy little girl. So, yes - Dora has arrived. And the rest of the crew? They get here tomorrow...we cannot wait!

The sunrise was beautiful this morning - lots of pinks and reds. And of course, I was out walking with Trinka, and by the time we got home it was over. The sunset at my desk was just as awesome, and the geese passing through made the photo that much better.

It was a sunny day, and my sunshine time for taking outdoor pictures is becoming really limited because of the shorter days. This guy was just begging to have his picture taken. I guess I don't care if Halloween is over.

When we were down by James and Liz, we came home to find out that our downstairs refrigerator had a major malfunction. It had decided to fire on all cylinders, and the tops had popped off the sodas and there was frozen soda everywhere. Last night we replaced it with a true beverage cooler - no more tiny, useless freezer! And it has the potential to get built into the island in our remodeled kitchen, providing that happens in the future.

I am not a big fan of raking leaves - I did plenty of it last year when Dale was gone, and I was hoping I wouldn't have to rake up any this year. I was not quite that lucky. It makes it that much more difficult when Trinka wants to lay in the piles, and then wants to play ball, too. Wouldn't it be nice if she could help too!

After a very long day of reintegration briefings, we got to sit down and enjoy the Ozaukee production of Wizard of Oz. It was extra special since Renee had the lead as Dorothy, and Rebecca was a munchkin. Dale and I both thoroughly enjoyed the show, and we were really glad we could be there!

We have had such a strange growing season. First there was such a mild winter, then we had the horrible drought, and then we had the heat. My roses don't seem to know what to do. I am happy to see that I still have blooms and buds, but I'm afraid we're right at the end.
