Columbine

Photo 365 + 250 - May 31

I'm thinking I'm just going to fill my gardens with columbine - there are enough colors, shapes and sizes to be interesting! Although about the time I make that decision it will decide not to grow nearly as well as it does now.

A sea of anemones

Photo 365 + 249 - May 30

Some flowers spread stay in their own little space, and others spread out. If I'm not careful the anemones will be taking over.

So delicate

Photo 365 + 248 - May 29

The lilies of the valley are tiny, but they produce an amazing smell. They're right outside the fence, so it's hard to miss the aroma when you come up the back walk and in through the gate.

New duds

Photo 365 + 247 - May 28

Dale is taking time to model his new clothes - courtesy of Duluth Trading Company. The local businesses have seemed to take notice of the charter captains this year, and he is happy to be reaping some of the benefits. Thank you Duluth Trading Company!

Paying Tribute

Photo 365 + 246 - May 27

Wow, the weather got nasty, but it held out for the Memorial Day Parade. Many thanks to those brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom - we honor you today and celebrate your lives.

That's one big onion...

Photo 365 + 245 - May 26

OK, so it's an ornamental onion - or an allium, to be completely correct. They're beautiful when they bloom, but don't last nearly long enough to really enjoy them.

Trinka's babies...

Photo 365 + 244 - May 25

The sound a baby rabbit makes when it is upset is really indescribable. It's kind of like a scream that goes on and on and on... The momma rabbit apparently wasn't very creative when it came to making her nest, because she located it in my flower garden. Once Trinka found the babies it was quite a challenge keeping her from picking them out so she could play with them. Today we had to round them up because they were hopping through the yard. Hopefully that means that they will be on their own soon so Trinka can have her space back.

We were fishin'

Photo 365 + 243 - May 24

First, my new Memorial Day flag. It was the only one of its kind on the rack, and totally appropriate for the upcoming holiday.

And yes - it's fishing time! Practice was required to be ready for the start of the charter season next weekend. And yes, they did catch a few.

Lunchtime visitor

Photo 365 + 242 - May 23

I was actually ready with my camera when the turkey came strutting down the hill. We get some pretty interesting visitors around here.

What a yellow!

Photo 365 + 241 - May 22

These pictures actually come close to capturing the yellow of these irises - absolutely gorgeous.

New blooms!

It's so much fun to have new stuff blooming every day!

More color

Photo 365 + 239 - May 20

We have more and more color coming every day in the gardens...it's very exciting to see spring trying to arrive.

On the boat...

Photo 365 + 238 - May 19

Yes, it's my first boat ride of the season.

Holy dog hair!

Photo 365 + 237 - May 18

Yes, there's still a dog left - it's amazing that she can lose that much hair and have no bald spots!

Apple Blossoms

Photo 365 + 236 - May 17

The apple tree is in full bloom...they just never seem to last long enough to enjoy them.

Overwhelming

Photo 365 + 235 - May 16

Overwhelming refers to the smell...Laura mentioned it when she walked in the door. And she's right - hyacinths seem to feel the space they sit in with more smell than you think they should. These are a Mother's Day gift from Laura. She was so excited that there were two different colors in the pot. And I'll get to enjoy them again next year when they're planted outside.

Sums it up...

Photo 365 + 234 - May 15

I don't think I need to add anything more...

Amazing Details

Photo 365 + 233 - May 14

You never know how much detail something contains until you look at it up close and personal. And I sure didn't know how dirty some of my flowers were until I photographed them with the macro lens. Makes me feel like they need to be washed ahead of time.

Frost?? You've gotta be kidding...

Photo 365 + 232 - May 13

The tulips were a little unhappy with the amount of frost that Mother Nature dealt to them last night. Thankfully, they were much happier when I got home from work.

She's baaaaaaaaack...

Photo 365 + 231 - May 12

His mistress, aka Kitchen Pass III has returned to her slip. And Captain Dale can hardly contain himself...OK he's much more excited than he looks in the picture.

Ready for the door!

Photo 365 + 230 - May 11

Those doors are going to have to come out of that garage soon, because there are actually door openings ready and waiting! This is the hallway linen closet - I'm even happy with my spackle feathering techniques!

Hiding...

Photo 365 + 229 - May 10

It's kind of like "Where's Waldo." If you look carefully, you can see all of the closet doors hiding in the wreckage known as the garage. I'm into the painting phase now, for all but one closet door that still needs tape removal and spackle repair, but I'm hoping that we can start hanging doors and clearing out space in the garage. My car would really like it's room back.

Rabbit food

Photo 365 + 228 - May 9

I start to feel lucky for the bulb flowers that I get to enjoy. For every one that blooms, I swear there's another one with a huge rabbit bite taken out of it.

Dew redo

Photo 365 + 227 - May 8

The dewdrop pictures I took this time around aren't nearly as good as the ones I took last year, at least not in my opinion, but I like how there's more than just drops in this one.

Golden

Photo 365 + 226 - May 7

We are entertained now by the goldfinches outside the window, since Cindy has moved the thistle seed feeder. The color of the males is awesomely bright, especially when they are hanging out in the sunshine.

They grow overnight

Photo 365 + 225 - May 6

If I could watch them, I do believe I could see them grow and bloom. It's too bad they don't last longer, so we could enjoy them just a little bit more.

Time to say goodbye

Photo 365 + 224 - May 5

What a whirlwind couple of days - and now it's time to go home. But I think we will be back - probably sooner than we think.

Final Farewell

Photo 365 + 223 - May 4

Today, CMSgt Raphael Jackson was laid to rest with all the pomp and circumstance that should be afforded to someone who gave so much of himself to his family, his friends, and the country that he loved. Godspeed, Ray. You will be missed by so many...more than you will ever know.

Photo 365 + 222 - May 3

The azaleas are in full bloom here in Virginia, and the colors are amazing. Every bush you see if totally covered in blossoms.

Light it up

Photo 365 + 221 - May 2

I love how the coloring and lighting in this picture turned out. This is the chandelier that is hanging in the lobby of our hotel.
