The sunflower is the hitchhiker, more than likely planted by a bird or squirrel dropping their seeds from the bird feeder. It's interesting how many different varieties grow from the sunflower seeds I buy as bird food.

While the big parties are taking place down in Milwaukee, Port Washington hosted some parties of their own last night. Streets were closed down to bike traffic only, and the view from the top of the fly bridge gives a little inkling of the volume of bikes in attendance. We commented that we never knew there were that many Harley's in Port!

I guess it's a personal call... I prefer wildflowers over weeds. The Queen Anne's Lace is growing in my garden, and it's certainly pretty enough to merit leaving it there.

After the last couple of days in the 90s with heat indexes over 100 degrees, today's low 80s felt wonderful. Trinka thought so too...

Notice the date - it's almost September. And these are the first beans that have been big enough to pick. Too bad there's not enough for a meal yet. What a messed up growing season this year.

Figured I could handhold the camera for these shots, but they didn't turn out as crisp as I liked. Next time...

There was lots of action on the boat this afternoon. Besides fishing, there was plenty of photography going on, and a little bit of napping. OK - so that was only Christopher...

And that has nothing to do with old! We were so excited to have Chris and Bow arrive today. It's gonna be a short visit, but we are going to make the most of it!

I think Heather just wanted to get rid of it. I'm a little sad it wasn't a bottle of Diet Coke.

It seems it's time for most of my roses to be on the rebloom. This one is really full right now.

I've always loved how these flowers bloom. They send up tons of foliage in the spring, to the point of choking out other plants. But then it all dies back, and in late summer, when there is nothing left but dried up leaves, the flowers emerge.

What better way to spend part of their last day of vacation but out on the boat. No fishing, but a great boat ride. Even Kenny and Josie were driving!

It's not quite the day, but we took advantage of celebrating since Josie was in town. I think her daddy got a little crazy - maybe lack of air after helping her blow out her candle! Happy 3rd birthday!

Vacations are just too short, but the time we get to spend together is priceless.

We were privileged to witness the marriage today of two very good friends. The day was beautiful and we had an awesome time at the after party reception. Maybe a little too much sugar running around, but it was a great time. Much love and congratulations to Heather and Dennis!

This surfaced in one of Laura's "give away" bags, and I saved it out for the grandkids. Papa just found out that it's also a puppet and sings (or quacks) when you move it's mouth. The kids absolutely love it.

Kenn and Kayla and the girls got here on Friday, but we didn't get Kenny until today. We decided to go visit Dale at the base, and the kids had a great time climbing around the helicopters. And Dale loves to show them off.
