Let me in!

Photo 256 - June 5

Yeah, I know - birds again. This little goldfinch apparently thought he wanted to be inside with us today. He went from window to window, trying to get in. This picture makes it look like he's bombing the window, but that really wasn't the case.

Art for the Living Room

Photo 255 - June 4

Part of the house "redo" includes getting some new stuff to hang on the wall. As I've said before, most everything that was hanging up before I started Operation Paint has been up since we moved here in 1991, and some of it was hanging in South Dakota when we lived there. So it seemed like a good time to do some updates. This piece is one that I found on Overstock.com, and then shopped around until I found the best deal. Anybody who knows me knows that I won't buy it until I'm sure the best deal has been had. It's a fun piece - very colorful and pretty big. I have two tentative spots in the living room picked out for it. I have a little touching up to do on it, and then it will be ready for hanging.

Close ups...and one for Dale!

Photo 254 - June 3

I'm getting really frustrated with dust on my sensor...I keep blowing in there with the specially made for cameras blower, but it doesn't seem to blow the dirt out. Now my two spots seem to have multiplied to three...and I can Photoshop the spots out, but it's frustrating that they're there in the first place. I got some pretty cool shots of the peonies out front, and some odds and ends flowers that look much more interesting in your face than they do from a distance.

This one's for you, Dale. I've moved this flag from upstairs to downstairs, and today I decided it was time to drill into the tree and make it fly. The sun was coming through it when I took the picture, and it actually looks like it's glowing.

New Bedding for Our Room!

Photo 253 - June 2

I was going to wait until after I got the closet door in to actually put our new bedding on the bed, but decided I really should make sure it fits and looks good. I'm glad I did, because we definitely need some kind of a dust ruffle/bedskirt, since the quilt only covers the mattress and not the box spring. That would probably be fine if we had a nice pretty wood bedframe, but we don't, so I should probably start looking for something to cover it. My first thought was to try to find something in the yellow on the quilt, but I have already exhausted too many hours looking for one, and I've decided it is something that just doesn't exist. So I guess I start shopping for something in the teal/turquoise department.

And the winner is...Sweet Midori!

Photo 252 - June 1

Wow! I cannot believe it's June already! It's that much closer to Dale's coming home, and that much closer to my needing to get this house put together! I do see progress, and the more I work, the faster I seem to be able to get things accomplished, which is pretty cool. My next room to work on is Laura's. I've already bought a new comforter, and now I'm pretty sure I've picked the paint color. The finalists were Sweet Midori on the left, and Tart Apple on the right. I'm pretty excited about the green - I really think it will look awesome in this room. Tomorrow I start with the ceiling, and hopefully the room will be green by the end of the weekend!

It's also rewarding to see that rose bushes that I've planted are actually thriving and doing well. The pink and cream roses in this pictures are some of my David Austin English roses. Apparently they really like where they're planted, and I'm thrilled to see how many blossoms there are so far this year. The walk up to the house is full of blooms.

Name me...

Photo 251 - May 31

No, I don't just take pictures of birds while I'm sitting at my desk, although Cindy and I are pretty entertained by what we see out the window. Today was momma and baby bird day, which I was not able to capture. The fat little babies, which are bigger than the mommas, spent lots of time today squacking and yelling to be fed. I did capture this bird, which could use identification. I told Cindy I was going to throw it out to my "identification squad," who has been instrumental in naming the birds that we're not sure of.

Late Irises

Photo 250 - May 30

When I planted this iris last year, I had no clue that one, it would be as big as it is - the plant and the flowers - or that it would be as absolutely gorgeous as it is. I'm so happy it's a late bloomer, so the poor little short iris that lives behind it gets a chance to bloom before it appears and totally overshadows it.
